Abstract

The survey “Physicians’ opinions about choice of medications for treatment of arterial hypertension in children and adolescents in routine practice” was performed in 13 Russian cities in 2005-2006 (totally 917 pediatrics from outpatient departments were interviewed). The study revealed, that the most commonly called medications were ACE inhibitors, diuretics, beta-adrenergic blocking agents and combined medications (papazol - papaverine+bendazol, adelphane – reserpine+dihydralazine +hydrochlorothiazide). Nevertheless the frequency of usage of these agents in clinical practice and choice of specific medication in certain clinical situations demonstrated insufficient level of knowledge among pediatrics regarding rational selection of antihypertensive preparations. The majority of physicians do not inform about modern antihypertensives - angiotensin II receptor blockers and calcium channel blockers.
