Abstract

The aim of our study was to integrate functional alterations in acute period of a coma to the common conception. We performed retrospective analysis of 120 and prospective analysis of 180 cases of coma. In result we came to conclusion that isolated brain injury is not exist. The acute period of a coma is always accompanied by different specific and organ disfunctions, progressing parallel to increasing of coma degree. The frequency and character of revealed disfunctions were same in patients in hypoxic, diabetic and toxic coma. These changes may be interpreted as a syndrome of multiorgan disfunction, which significance depend of cause, degree and duration of coma. Thus, usage of functional substitution is necessary in earlier acute period of coma by relative indications.
