MEDICAL AND SOCIAL ASPECTS OF MATERNAL MORTALITY

Abstract

The authors examined maternal mortality rates and causes of maternal deaths in hospitals of the Department of Health in Moscow from 2001 to 2011. Maternal mortality rate in Moscow has decreased by to 1,7 times since 2001, but this indicator is higher than in the Russian Federation by to 1.4 times. The leading cause of maternal death in hospitals in Moscow is medical co-morbidities. The greater part of dead women (more than 50 %) came from unfavourable social conditions and were inhabitants from other regions of Russian Federation and citizens of foreign countries.
