Abstract

High prevalence of periodontal disease and increased treatment needs pose a challenge for dentists. The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency ranges 1 % — 78 % in different age groups. High vitamin D-deficiency levels associated with increased prevalence of oral diseases need to be considered when selecting an appropriate therapy with vitamin D metabolites. We studied blood supply to the oral cavity in patients with mild chronic generalized periodontitis accompanied by vitamin D deficiency. The oral mucosa showed hyperemic microcirculation characterized by increased microvascular blood flow, increased vascular permeability, stagnation areas in periodontal tissues.
