Abstract

The authors conducted a randomized clinical trial to evaluate and determine self-appraisal of the health status of elderly edentulous patients. The study was conducted as a survey of elderly edentulous patients with periodontal disease before and after dental implant treatment and classic prosthetics. Analysis of the questionnaires showed a significant improvement in assessment of their health after treatment in a group of patients who received dental implants. Dental implants are the most effective way for a substitution of dentition defects with concomitant periodontal pathology, allowing elderly patients to lead a full life without experiencing discomfort in eating and communication. A preliminary survey on the dental admission allows dentists to optimize the choice of the method of treatment and control the treatment process that helps to increase the treatment effectiveness.
