Abstract

The article reviews the history of the foundation of the Stalingrad medical institute as well as the destinies of its academic staff members in the hard postwar years. Special attention is paid to the biography of Akim Kuzmitch Martynov, the first director of the institute. The article uses previously unknown archive records.
