Concept of systemic inflammation in diabetic angiopathy pathogenesis

Abstract

Modern pathogenetic concept of angiopathy in diabetes mellitus is discussed in this article. It reports that inflammation is the leading mechanism of atherosclerosis development and progression in diabetes mellitus and that autoimmune reactions take part in the pathogenesis of vascular lesion. The main proinflammatory cytokines are c haracterized, a mechanism of their involvement in diabetic angiopathy pathogenesis is shown.
